Dr Niklaus Wirth’s pioneering work on languages like Pascal, Modula-2 and Oberon are shining examples of simplicity and elegance. In a recent lecture in California, this path-breaker voiced his disapproval for the unwieldy nature of today’s programming languages and called for a return to the basics.

When forces of the larger stage organize around a dominant restrictive group, a reactionary force is generated in the remaining community. Over time, this reactive force propels various alternatives.
