Growing the Open Source Ecosystem

Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) has changed the landscape of IT in the past decade. With star projects such as Linux, Apache, PHP, Python, Ruby, MySQL, OpenOffice, Eclipse, the open source ecosystem has evolved into a complex yet collaborative web of projects, software, innovators and stakeholders from the IT industry, governments, universities as well as a vibrant global community.

Open Source Adoption in India

Each stakeholder in the FOSS ecosystem in India whether they are part of the IT industry, government, universities or the community play an important part in growing the adoption and usage of open source software. It is vital for public-private partnerships to work together to nourish and grow this ecosystem in India. Lower costs, more control, tools for local innovation and automation are just some of the compelling factors as to why FOSS is key to creating and maintaining an edge in providing cost-effective IT services and spurring economic development locally.

Technetra contributes to growing the Ecosystem

Technetra is proud to be part of this growing ecosystem and actively contributes to help grow the adoption of open source in Asia with a focus on India.

We work with government organizations to evaluate open source technologies for use in automation projects and education programs. We advise government organizations in developing e-governance solutions using open source software with collaborative techniques.

We help educational organizations develop solutions for localized content distribution and distance learning using open source and open standards. We work with universities to develop programs, curricula and training using open source software.

We organize conferences and seminars to facilitate communication between industry players and government and academia and to promote the adoption of Linux and open source software in Asia. Our team co-founded LinuxAsia (2003-2007), India’s first open source business conference.

We work with various community organizations to facilitate sharing of ideas, fostering innovation and increasing participation and code contributions from India’s developer community in the major global open source projects such as Mozilla, MySQL, Fedora, Ubuntu.
