February 2003
The Foundation of Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi organized a workshop on Open Source Software Initiatives and Business Opportunities presented by Technetra. In this workshop, Robert Adkins and Alolita Sharma of Technetra covered new thinking in business models for global software products and technologies. Limitations of traditional software business approaches urgently require new market paradigms. Drivers of change include the invasive emergence of ubiquitous computing at every possible level of granularity and, at the same time, a new realization of the actual costs required to sustain real product life cycles. Equally critical is a growing concern over the societal impact of cyber security and information control. Free and Open Source software and technologies are one response to these concerns and will generate new opportunities and models for its technology leaders.
